With the monsoon season just around the corner, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is gearing up its emergency management apparatus. Starting June 1, 2026, the corporation will
activate a dedicated, round-the-clock monsoon control room to effectively handle emergencies across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
The control room, which will remain fully operational until September 30, 2026, is designed to serve as a centralised hub for tracking weather-related disruptions on major arterial roads, flyovers, and highways that fall under the jurisdiction of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
To ensure uninterrupted surveillance, the control room will be manned by a dedicated team of four personnel working in rotating shifts across 24 hours. One of the objectives is also to keep a close eye on infrastructure, including bridges, flyovers, and chronic spots across the city that could be traditionally prone to monsoon-related accidents.
Recognising that Mumbai’s monsoon challenges require a unified response, MSRDC officials will be working in close, real-time coordination with several civic and state bodies. These include the state government, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the Thane Municipal Corporation, and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.
A key focus of this year’s monsoon preparedness is the swift redressal of commuter grievances, particularly regarding road quality. The control room will act as a direct pipeline to ground engineers. If a citizen calls in to report a pothole, field engineers will be informed to inspect the site and initiate repair work to prevent traffic bottlenecks.
“Every year this control room is set up to attend to calls by people facing any problems in the monsoon season and for grievance resolution,” an MSRDC official stated, emphasising that setting up the specialised cell is a vital preventive step to keep the city’s transit lifelines moving safely during heavy downpours.
Commuters can reach out to the control room through the following active helplines:
