Imagine spending six and a half years working on just one action scene! That’s exactly how much time went into creating one of the big moments in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. The film has been in the making
for years, and the director has now shared some fun and interesting details about what happens behind the scenes.
Remember the story of Ravana and Jatayu? Their fight is an important part of the Ramayana, and audiences will get to see it unfold on the big screen in Nitesh Tiwari’s film. But here’s something you probably didn’t know. The team took six and a half years to complete this one action sequence!
Speaking to Shreyas Media, Nitesh explained how long the process was and how many people worked on it. “You know how much time it has taken for us to finish the Ravana and Jatayu fight? From the time I briefed the previous artist to the time we finished the whole thing, six and a half years. One action sequence. I can go on and on about it for an hour just to tell you how much effort went into making everything from scratch. And thousands of people have worked on it,” he said.
The director also pointed out that thousands of people have been working on the film. And that’s not all. Remember Ravana’s famous Pushpak Viman, the flying vehicle from the epic? The team spent almost two years trying to get its design right. In fact, they made around 40 to 50 different designs before choosing the final one!
Nitesh revealed that the final version looked very different from what they had first imagined. This created another challenge because the team had already planned the Ravana-Jatayu fight using the earlier design. Once they settled on the new Pushpak Viman, they had to go back and change several parts of the action sequence.
“We took close to two years to arrive at that. And then a lot of things changed, which is why it took us so long to shape the Ravana and Jatayu fight. Because previously, we assumed the design of Pushpak Viman would be something like that, and we shaped the sequence around it. And when we loved the final design, which was completely different from what we had first thought, we had to do a lot of iterations. We created some 40-50 designs for Pushpak Viman before finalising the one you see in the film. We didn’t want something that did look like it could fly; we wanted some kind of science to go into it. Because I believe, we all believe there was science behind everything that happened that time,” the director explained.
Nitesh said the team didn’t want to make the Pushpak Viman look like just another flying machine. They wanted to give it a design that looked believable, as they believe there was science behind the things described in the epic.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana will tell the epic story across two films. Ranbir Kapoor will play Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi will portray Sita, while Yash will be seen as Ravana. The first part is scheduled to release in theatres on Diwali 2026. The second instalment is planned for 2027. However, reports in the international media have suggested that the sequel could arrive during Diwali 2028.
