A nurse in China has been suspended after she allowed her boyfriend to accompany her during night shifts and assist with clinical tasks at a hospital. She publicly shared videos showing him helping with her work,
triggering widespread public criticism and concerns over patient safety, as reported by the South China Morning Post.
After the video circulated widely online, the public questioned how an unauthorized individual could access sensitive patient information and participate in medical work. Many users raised alarms over potential risks to patient safety and breaches of hospital regulations.
The incident, which occurred at the privately-run Singde Brain Blood Vessel Hospital in Qingdao, Shandong province, came to light after the nurse posted a video on social media in January showing her boyfriend helping her during night duties. According to the Xiaoxiang Morning Herald, the nurse intended to highlight how supportive and considerate her boyfriend was, but the video quickly backfired.
What’s In The Video?
In the footage, the nurse referred to the man as her “night-shift buddy” in her controversial video. She explained that although he works during the day, he often comes to the hospital at night to keep her company.
Clips showed the boyfriend appearing at the nurses’ station on multiple occasions, wearing different outfits, suggesting he had visited her in the hospital numerous times. He was seen operating computers at the nurses’ station, writing patient reports, preparing medications for patients, and labeling intravenous bottles, tasks typically restricted to trained medical staff.

Investigation Underway
The South China Morning Post further reported that a spokesperson from the hospital confirmed to the media that management had been made aware of the video and an investigation had been launched immediately. The spokesperson described the matter as serious and said strict action would be taken.
“We saw her video. There is something wrong with her brain. This is not a small issue. We will handle it seriously,” the spokesperson said.
Following growing public pressure on the matter, the Qingdao Municipal Health Commission also issued a statement on January 3. The statement confirmed that the nurse had been suspended for violating work discipline. Authorities did not disclose her identity in official statements.
