ovation to PM Modi.
Sharing the video of the moment, PM Modi wrote on Instagram, “Gratitude to my Cabinet colleagues! Our efforts to work towards a Viksit Bharat will continue with greater vigour, guided by the aspirations of 140 crore Indians.”

Modi Surpasses Nehru’s Record
Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday became India’s longest-serving democratically elected prime minister with an unbroken tenure of 4,399 days in office, surpassing the record of the country’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Jawaharlal Nehru, who was first elected prime minister in 1952, took the oath of office on May 13 that year and remained in the post until May 27, 1964, serving an uninterrupted tenure of 4,398 days.

His earlier stint between 1947 and 1952 was as the head of the interim government, when general elections had not yet been institutionalised or conducted.
Modi assumed office on May 26, 2014, after securing a landslide victory in the general elections. He was re-elected with a bigger mandate in 2019, with his second term beginning on May 30 that year. His third consecutive term started on June 9, 2024.
Indira Gandhi, meanwhile, served as prime minister for a cumulative 14 years between 1966 and 1984, though her tenure was interrupted after she was voted out of office in the 1977 general elections held following the lifting of the Emergency.
NDA To Hold Meeting To Mark Milestone
A meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to celebrate the government completing 12 years and Prime Minister Narendra Modi becoming the longest-serving elected prime minister of India will be held in Delhi on Wednesday.
All constituents of the ruling NDA, along with the top leadership of the BJP, including Prime Minister Modi, are expected to attend the meeting.
According to sources, a resolution hailing Prime Minister Modi for the achievement is likely to be adopted at the meeting of the NDA partners. Modi is also expected to address the conclave after the resolution is passed.
