The Gujarat Titans (GT) have switched their typical midnight blue-and-gold colors to lavender for Tuesday’s match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This is the fourth
year in a row to raise awareness about cancer.
They started this initiative in 2023 to show solidarity with cancer patients, survivors, and their families. The color lavender is the universal symbol representing support against all forms of cancer.
“On May 12, the Titans go Lavender. We take the field against SRH with a bigger purpose; standing united in the fight against cancer,” the franchise said in a social media video.
The video included a small monologue from GT’s lead pacer, Mohammed Siraj, about the franchise’s IPL 2026 campaign so far. GT lost four of their first seven matches but have won four on the trot since to jump to third in the points table.
“There were many ups and downs in the beginning, both as a player and as a team. But the way we’ve made a comeback after that, you really need courage to do something like that. It’s very important to stay positive; it’s very important to stay in the present. Don’t hold anything back: go all in. The most important thing for me is whether I gave my 100% or not,” Siraj said.
“Many people in India are fighting against cancer, so it’s important to stand with them. The GT family has taken a stand for this cause, so I feel very grateful to be a part of this and to have taken this stand. So, this is a very emotional and special match for me,” he added.
A win over the second-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad would take the Titans to the top of the table.
Gujarat Titans’ IPL results in lavender matches
In the 2023 season, the GT debuted the lavender kit in a dominant performance against SRH. The match was defined by captain Shubman Gill’s maiden IPL century, which guided the team to a total of 188. This was followed by a lethal bowling display from Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma, who both picked up four wickets to restrict the opposition. The 34-run victory was a landmark moment for the franchise, as it officially confirmed their spot as the first team to qualify for the playoffs that year.
The following years saw a mix of frustration and continued clinical success. In 2024, the lavender match against the Kolkata Knight Riders was unfortunately washed out by rain without a single ball being bowled, a result that ended the Titans’ playoff contention. However, they bounced back in 2025 with a convincing win over Lucknow Super Giants in front of a stadium filled with thousands of fans waving lavender flags.
