Ollie Robinson is back in England’s Test team and, on Day 1 of his first Test match for the Poms after more than two years, he picked up four wickets. Robinson bowled the second over of New Zealand’s first innings
in the ongoing first Test at Lord’s and picked up three wickets.
He opened his wicket account by trapping Devon Conway in front of the wickets on the third ball and then got rid of Kane Williamson for a two-ball duck on the fifth ball. The former Kiwi captain was caught by debutant Emilio Gay.
Robinson, who last played a Test match for England against India in Ranchi from February 23 to 26, 2024, picked up his third wicket of the ongoing match in the form of Rachin Ravindra on the sixth ball of his first over. The left-handed batter was also trapped in front of the wickets.

The total of three wickets by Robinson in his first over of the match helped him enter his name in the history books. He is the first English bowler in the 149-year-old history of Test cricket to take three wickets in his first over of an innings.
Before him, a total of six players had managed to dismiss three opposition batters in their first over of a Test innings, but there was no English player on that list.
The record of being the first bowler in the world to dismiss three batters in his first over of a match is in the name of former Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Zoysa. Zoysa needed just three balls to take his first three wickets for Sri Lanka in the 1999 Test against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club.

His feat was matched by former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan in 2006. In the first over of the third Test between India and Pakistan in Karachi, Pathan picked up three wickets in the last three balls of the first over of the match. He had opened his wicket account by dismissing Salman Butt on the fourth ball and then got rid of Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf in the next two deliveries.
New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori, Pakistan’s Haris Sohail, and Australia’s Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland are the only other four bowlers to dismiss three batters in their first over of a Test innings.
