There has been immense speculation surrounding Race 4. From rumours of Saif Ali Khan returning to the franchise to Ranbir Kapoor taking the mantle forward, several big names have been attached to the franchise.
Now, reports claim that Aamir Khan could potentially be the next face of the Race franchise.
A source close to the development told Filmfare, “Aamir has heard the script and liked the material. He has shown keen interest in the film and wants Vijay Krishna Acharya to take over as director. Things are being discussed at the moment, and if everything falls into place, Aamir could become the new face of the Race franchise.”
Race was first released in 2008, starring Saif Ali Khan, Bipasha Basu, Akshaye Khanna, Katrina Kaif and Anil Kapoor. The film became a massive success. Then came Race 2 in 2013. Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Ameesha Patel joined Saif and Anil in the film.
Race 3 released in 2018 with Salman Khan replacing Saif. The newest additions to the cast included Bobby Deol, Saqib Saleem and Daisy Shah. While Race 2 was a direct sequel, Race 3 followed a different storyline. Unlike Race and Race 2, the third part of the franchise was quite the box office disaster.
Now, Race 4 is expected to return to the original Race storyline. Last year, producer Ramesh Taurani revealed that he was in talks with Saif and Sidharth Malhotra for the film. Many reports also claimed for the longest time that Ranbir Kapoor was going to be the next face of the Race franchise. The actor later denied these claims.
Now, reports of Aamir’s involvement are generating quite the buzz. Previously, Aamir had joined the Dhoom franchise as the new villain of Dhoom 3. If he signs Race 4, this would be the second big franchise that he would take over. An official confirmation of Aamir’s casting is still awaited.
Meanwhile, he was last seen in Sitaare Zameen Par, which was a spiritual sequel to the mega-hit film Taare Zameen Par. He also recently produced Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta starrer Batwara 1947. The film is performing decently at the box office.
