Infosys will not undertake layoffs despite the rapid rise of artificial intelligence (AI), CEO and MD Salil Parekh told Moneycontrol, emphasising the company’s focus on hiring and reskilling to adapt to the changing
technology landscape.
“We have not done any layoffs in the last year and we don’t see anything of that sort coming up,” Parekh said in an interview with Moneycontrol, even as several peers restructure their workforce amid increasing automation.
Hiring to continue despite AI shift
Instead of cutting jobs, the Bengaluru-based IT major plans to sustain large-scale campus hiring. Infosys is expected to onboard around 20,000 fresh graduates this year, in line with last year’s intake.
Parekh noted that while AI will change the nature of entry-level roles, it is unlikely to reduce overall demand for talent.
AI to reshape, not replace jobs
“AI is expanding the scope of work, not shrinking it,” Parekh told Moneycontrol, describing the ongoing transition as a structural shift in how IT services are delivered.
He added that the company is training engineers to work both with and without AI tools, ensuring they can build, validate, and optimise code generated by foundational AI models.
Industry-wide restructuring underway
The comments come at a time when several IT firms have undertaken workforce restructuring. Moneycontrol had earlier reported that Tata Consultancy Services planned to cut around 12,500 jobs in 2025. Other companies such as HCLTech, Oracle, and Cognizant have also announced similar moves.
AI emerging as key growth driver
Parekh said AI already contributes about 5.5% to Infosys’ revenue and is growing rapidly, with the technology expected to become a major growth driver in the coming years.
To accelerate its AI push, Infosys is expanding partnerships with firms such as OpenAI and Anthropic, while also deploying internal platforms like Topaz Fabric to scale AI-led development across projects.
