War 2, the Ayan Mukerji directorial spy action thriller film featuring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, Kiara Advani and Anil Kapoor in the lead roles, continues its slow run at the box office. Backed by Yash Raj
Films, it was released on the big screens on August 14 and is yet to touch the Rs 250 crore-mark in India. Despite a strong opening weekend, the film’s momentum has dipped in its second week.
This could be due to the film’s mixed reactions from fans and critics alike, as well as its big box office clash with Rajinikanth’s Coolie and the massive response to Mahavatar Narsimha.
War 2 Box Office Collection
According to sacnilk.com, on Tuesday, the film collected a total of Rs 2.76 crore across all languages in India, which takes its total 13-day collection to Rs 227.26 crore.
Going by the numbers, the Rs 300 crore mark looks like a dream for War 2, especially with new releases like Sidharth Malhotra- Janhvi Kapoor’s Param Sundari and Tiger Shroff-Sanjay Dutt’s Baaghi 4 arriving in the theatres in the coming weeks.
The combination of Jr NTR and Hrithik was expected to set the box office on fire, especially with the Spy Universe brand behind it. But the reality has been disappointing. With numbers constantly declining, the film appears to be nearing the conclusion of its theatrical run sooner than expected.
YRF Puts Agent Vikram On Hold
Looking at the performance of War 2, now reports suggest that YRF has dropped its ambitious plan to make a standalone film based on Jr NTR’s character, Agent Vikram.
According to Bollywood Hungama, a source stated, “YRF had big plans to capitalise on Jr NTR’s Pan India success and develop a spin-off of the character of Agent Vikram. The creative team was already working on a single picture, but the failure of War 2 has stopped the entire process.”
Spy Universe Future Projects
After the failure of War 2, all eyes are on the next project of the YRF’s Spy Universe, Alpha, featuring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari and Bobby Deol in the leads.
Helmed by Shiv Rawail, it is slated to hit the big screens on the occasion of Christmas 2025.
The makers shared a brief glimpse into the world of Alpha in the post-credit scenes of War 2. It featured Bobby Deol’s character tattooing the Greek letter alpha on a young girl’s hand, who is believed to be a younger version of Alia Bhatt’s character from the upcoming film.
