More than a decade after Tanu Weds Manu Returns hit theatres, Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan are officially set to reunite for another chapter in the popular franchise. The third film, titled Tanu Weds Manu:
The Next Chapter, is scheduled to go on floors in 2026. The announcement was made as part of Eros Innovation’s plans to revive several well-known titles under the Eros Universe banner. While the makers have not shared a detailed production schedule, the project is expected to begin filming next year.
For fans of the franchise, the biggest draw remains the return of Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan as Tanu and Manu. Their on-screen chemistry helped turn the first two films into major successes and made the characters among the most recognisable in modern Hindi romantic comedies.
This time, the film will be directed by Mitakshara Kumar, known for her work on The Empire and Heeramandi. The project is also being co-produced by Rudraksh Jyoti Soma Limited.
Even though the makers have not revealed any story details, speculation has already begun around Kangana’s role in the film. The actor played a double role in Tanu Weds Manu Returns, portraying both Tanu and Kusum Sangwan, better known as Datto.
With a third instalment now in development, there is a lot of curiosity about whether Kangana could take on multiple roles again. Industry buzz has even linked the film to the possibility of a triple role, although the makers have not confirmed any such plans.
The cast remains another major talking point.
Apart from Kangana and Madhavan, fans are hoping to see familiar faces from the franchise return. Actors including Deepak Dobriyal, Jimmy Shergill, Swara Bhasker and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub played key roles in the earlier films, though no official casting announcements have been made so far.
The first Tanu Weds Manu arrived in 2011 and found an audience with its mix of romance, humour and memorable characters. Directed by Aanand L Rai, the film established Tanu and Manu as one of Bollywood’s most popular on-screen couples.
Its sequel, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, released in 2015 and enjoyed an even bigger response. The film became particularly known for Kangana’s dual performance and the introduction of Datto, a character who continues to be remembered by fans years later.
With filming expected to begin in 2026, the makers are likely to reveal more details about the story, cast and release plans in the coming months.
On the work front, Kangana Ranaut will be seen in Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata and R Madhavan will be seen in G.D.N.
