The sequel to the National Award-winning Sridevi starrer Mom is officially in development, bringing with it a new narrative and a new pairing at its center. Khushi Kapoor and Karishma Tanna have been cast
in lead roles, marking a significant on-screen collaboration that has already begun generating industry curiosity.
While Mom (2017) revolved around a mother’s emotional and fierce fight for justice, Mom 2 will not follow the same storyline. Instead, the film is set to explore a contemporary plot with similar thematic undercurrents—resilience, emotional intensity, and layered female-led storytelling. The new installment aims to honor the essence of the original while carving its own identity for a modern audience.
A source close to the production shared insights into the casting and the tone of the film. “Mom 2 is emotionally layered and a modern, dynamic film, and Karishma Tanna fits well to enhance the film’s theme. Her intense emotional depth aligns with Khushi Kapoor’s refreshing energy, and that chemistry is what makes them a right pair,” the source said.
Karishma Tanna’s Return to Spotlight
Karishma Tanna, who earned widespread acclaim for her role in the award-winning drama series Scoop, is expected to bring a powerful screen presence to the film. Her performance in Scoop showcased her ability to balance fragility and strength—qualities that will be central to her role in Mom 2.
Khushi Kapoor’s Next Big Screen Move
For Khushi Kapoor, this marks another major film project as she continues to shape her acting journey. Her casting has sparked conversation, particularly because Mom was headlined by her mother, the late Sridevi, in one of the most memorable performances of her career. However, Mom 2 is not a direct continuation of that story, and Khushi will be stepping into a world that stands apart narratively.
The film is produced by Boney Kapoor and will be directed by Girish Kohli, who co-wrote the original Mom and has worked on films such as Kesari and HIT: The First Case. With production underway, announcements regarding the supporting cast, teaser, and release timeline are expected soon.
