Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh recently met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to push for better rail connectivity to the newly inaugurated Noida International Airport. He has urged the minister to redevelop
Chola railway station, which falls under the North Central Railway (NCR) zone, with modern infrastructure and improved passenger facilities, said a report by The Indian Express.
In his letter, Singh also requested faster approval and construction of a proposed new railway line in the region, along with stoppages for major trains at Chola station.
“We, on behalf of the people of Jewar and Anupshahr constituencies, would like to formally submit our request for the comprehensive development and upgradation of Chola Railway Station into a modern, multimodal transport hub, aligned with the upcoming Noida International Airport (Jewar Airport). Given the strategic importance of the airport—one of the largest infrastructure projects in the country—the role of Chola Railway Station becomes pivotal in ensuring seamless regional and national connectivity. Strengthening this node will significantly benefit not only Gautam Buddh Nagar and Bulandshahr districts but the entire Western Uttar Pradesh region,” The Indian Express quoted him as saying.
The renewed push for rail connectivity comes shortly after a major infrastructure approval by the Centre. On March 10, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cleared a revised capital outlay of Rs 3,630.77 crore for a new road link to the Noida Airport.
The 31.42-km corridor will connect Jewar International Airport to the Delhi-Faridabad-Ballabhgarh-Sohna spur of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway under the Hybrid Annuity Mode, spanning parts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Once completed, it is expected to provide faster access from South Delhi, Faridabad and Gurugram, while boosting logistics and economic activity across the NCR.
The route will intersect with key infrastructure corridors such as the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Yamuna Expressway and the Dedicated Freight Corridor, enabling seamless multimodal transport integration. Officials have described the elevated stretch, around 11 km of the project, as a critical component linking the DND-Ballabhgarh bypass to the airport.
The project also aligns with planned urban expansion under the Faridabad Master Plan 2031. Of the additional Rs 689.24 crore required for the elevated section, the Haryana government will contribute Rs 450 crore.
Noida International Airport Inauguration
The phase 1 of Noida International Airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28. This new airport is set to benefit various regions including Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Etawah, Bulandshahr and Faridabad. It has been developed as the second international airport for the Delhi-NCR region.
Noida International Airport is among the largest greenfield airport projects in the country. The Phase 1 of the airport has been developed at a total investment of around Rs 11,200 crore. The airport has been developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India. The concession period commenced on 1 October 2021 for a period of 40 years.
