Vaibhav Sooryavanshi starred with an 80-ball 175 to help India secure their sixth ICC U19 World Cup title by defeating England by 100 runs in the final on Friday.
The 14-year-old was adjudged the ‘Player
of the Match’ in the final as well as the ‘Player of the Tournament’ as Vaibhav reached his hundred in just 55 balls, setting a new record for the fastest century in an Under-19 World Cup final.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, though, is not done and wants to emulate his World Cup win for the senior side.
“I just have one game. I even spoke to my father whenever… that half the dream is fulfilled, but half is still left, which is to play and win a World Cup for the senior team. Of course, that is every player’s dream, to play for the senior team and win for your country, for India. So that is the focus now — to play for India,” Vaibhav Sooryavanshi told Ray Sports.
Why Is Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Emotional?
It is not that the youngster is living in the future, but he accepted that he will miss his U-19 World Cup-winning teammates.
“Everyone is going their separate ways, so after every tour… Sir, I won’t say tour; whatever, if I play for Bihar’s team, I can go back to play for them. But even when I come back from there for another tour, leaving that team behind, it’s very emotional. I feel very sad inside,” Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said.
“In Bihar itself, I stayed for four days now, I was there for fourteen days with my people, so it’s very emotional. But day by day, I was with them for eight months, I mean, I can’t say how much it will hurt that now we all, all of us, all of us, will be together. We will meet two people, four people, but getting together all at once might be possible in the future, God willing. This is a very emotional moment, but we are taking away another good moment together. We have ended the tournament on such a note, as world champions, so it will be very memorable. Whenever we meet in the future, this memory, this thing, we have won the World Cup together,” he added.
