Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood has reportedly retired from acting and directing at the age of 95. The update came from his son, musician Kyle Eastwood, shortly after the Oscar-winning filmmaker celebrated
his 96th birthday, marking what could be the end of one of the longest and most influential careers in Hollywood.
According to an interview with French outlet France 3, Kyle Eastwood confirmed that his father had officially stepped away from the industry. The revelation has drawn attention because Clint Eastwood remained active in filmmaking well into his nineties.
Speaking about working alongside his father, Kyle told France 3: “I have a lot of good memories of working with him. Now he’s retired, he’s 95 years old. But I’ve been very lucky to be able to work with him on a lot of films. It was a great experience for me.”
Clint Eastwood’s career spans more than seven decades and includes achievements both in front of and behind the camera. He first became internationally recognised through Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy western films before cementing his status as a screen icon through the Dirty Harry franchise.
As a filmmaker, Eastwood built a body of work that earned critical and commercial success across multiple decades. His directing credits include Unforgiven, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Letters from Iwo Jima, Gran Torino, American Sniper and Juror No. 2.
His achievements include four competitive Academy Awards. He won both Best Director and Best Picture for Unforgivenand Million Dollar Baby, and later received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.
Over the course of his career, Eastwood accumulated more than 70 acting credits and over 40 directing credits, making him one of Hollywood’s most prolific actor-directors.
The retirement news surfaced just as Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor paid tribute to Eastwood on social media to mark his birthday. On Monday, Anil Kapoor shared a message praising the Hollywood veteran’s longevity and influence. He wrote: “Happy Birthday, Clint Eastwood. Few people redefine longevity the way you have. Decades of unforgettable work, timeless characters, and an enduring spirit that continues to inspire artists across the world”.
Kapoor quoted a post that referenced one of Eastwood’s most well-known sayings. The original message read: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Clint Eastwood was born on May 31, 1930, and turns 96 this month. One of his most well-known quotes is, ‘Do not let the old man in’. That line became a personal motto about aging, discipline, and refusing to mentally give up. It came from a conversation about staying active, staying curious, and continuing to move forward no matter your age. Wishing you a very Happy Birthday and many more ahead”.
While Eastwood has not personally announced his retirement, Kyle Eastwood’s remarks to France 3 have fuelled discussion about the closing chapter of a career
