In what might come as a massive boost for Arsenal ahead of their weekend clash against Manchester United, as centre-back Piero Hincapié and Riccardo Calafiori came back to training amidst injury concerns
lingering over both of them.
As per Sky Sports’ Sam Blitz, Hincapie and Calafiori took part in training and appear all set to feature against Manchester United on Sunday, January 25.
Arsenal are hunting their fifth straight Premier League home victory over old foes Manchester United this weekend as they look to stay clear of a faltering chasing pack.
“We still have another training session, so we will see tomorrow, after that, to assess everybody and make a decision, first of all, in the squad,” Arteta said.
Reports earlier this week claimed Kai Havertz was managing knee inflammation and could see his minutes restricted. He was also seen in training, though Arteta offered no update on his fitness.
“Well, he started without a pre-season and a lot of minutes and a lot of responsibility on him. Now the fact that we have other options as well, I think it is something really positive, especially for the squad and you could see the other day, Gabi [Jesus] scoring two goals, Viktor coming on and making an impact to win the game,” Arteta said.
The Gunners have been held to 0-0 draws in their past two league games against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, but title rivals Manchester City and Aston Villa have failed to take advantage.
On paper, Arsenal will not be sweating too much ahead of the visit of Manchester United, but they will be wary of the club’s new-manager bounce under Michael Carrick.
United looked revitalised in last week’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City, Michael Carrick’s first match in his second stint as interim boss, delivering a performance brimming with attacking verve.
