Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has intensified his criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his foreign visits, this time attacking the viral “Melody” moment involving Italian Prime Minister Giorgia
Meloni.
Speaking at Raebareli, Rahul Gandhi accused the Prime Minister of ignoring economic troubles in India while appearing cheerful during overseas visits.
“An economic storm is looming overhead, and our Prime Minister is distributing toffees in Italy,” Gandhi said.
Rahul Gandhi warns of economic crisis
The Congress leader said farmers, youth, women, workers and small traders were suffering while the Prime Minister continued making public appearances abroad.
“Farmers, youth, women, workers and small traders are all suffering, the PM is smiling, making reels, and BJP members are clapping. This is not leadership, this is theatrics,” Gandhi stated.
Rahul Gandhi also warned about a major economic crisis and rising inflation.
“An economic upheaval is coming,” he said. He claimed that petrol, diesel and cooking gas prices would rise sharply in the coming months.
“You will see where inflation reaches in just a few months. You will see where the prices of petrol, diesel and gas go,” Gandhi said.
Questions PM over foreign visits
Rahul Gandhi accused the Prime Minister of giving contradictory messages to citizens. “The Prime Minister tells people not to travel abroad, and then himself travels overseas in aircraft worth thousands of crores,” he remarked.
He also claimed the government was advising people not to buy gold and reduce travel because of the economic situation and global instability linked to the Middle East crisis.
The Congress MP further alleged that the country could face shortages of essential supplies. “Gas supply to end, fertiliser also… kerosene too will finish,” he said.
‘Prime Minister is a traitor’
During his speech, Rahul Gandhi directly attacked the BJP and RSS leadership.
“When these RSS workers come before you and speak about Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, you should tell them to their face that your Prime Minister is a traitor, your Home Minister is a traitor… Your organisation is traitorous. You have worked to sell out India,” Gandhi said.
He also accused the government of weakening constitutional systems and damaging institutions. “Economic crisis at your doorstep as he has finished constitutionally,” Gandhi stated.
He further alleged that “he has sold the eco systems”.
Rahul Gandhi additionally referred to Prime Minister Modi’s speeches during the Covid-19 pandemic and demonetisation.
“Narendra Modi will tell you, he will cry, just as he cried during Covid and demonetisation, he will cry and say that none of it is his fault,” Gandhi said.
BJP hits back
The BJP strongly criticised Rahul Gandhi over his remarks against the Prime Minister.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the Congress of repeatedly insulting Narendra Modi.
“Congress talks about being a ‘mohabbat ki dukaan’, but this is their real identity. They have repeatedly insulted PM Modi and even targeted his mother. Because the Prime Minister comes from an OBC background, they have always disrespected him,” Poonawalla said.
Sharad Pawar defends PM Modi
Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar defended Prime Minister Modi amid criticism over the foreign tour.
Pawar said political differences should not come in the way of protecting India’s global image.
“Prime Minister Modi is working to protect the country’s prestige outside India. We may have different political views, but when it comes to the nation’s honour, political differences should not be brought in,” Pawar said.
