Theme of the Year: Vande Mataram
This year, the Republic Day theme celebrates Vande Mataram, marking 150 years since the song was composed. The theme reconnects citizens with India’s freedom movement while reflecting the country’s evolution over decades.
Paintings inspired by 1920s interpretations of the song will line Kartavya Path, while schools, colleges, and cultural groups across India will perform music and dance from January 19 to 26.
Even official invitations, floral arrangements, and tableaux follow the Vande Mataram theme.
Parade Highlights
Republic Day 2026 will see several firsts in the parade. The Indian Army will showcase a Battle Array Formation, demonstrating coordinated troop movements alongside tanks, missile systems, drones, and armored vehicles.
The Indian Air Force flypast will feature fighter jets and helicopters in multiple formations, with a special tableau honoring Air Force veterans.

This year, top European Union leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa, will attend the celebrations alongside President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The government is modernizing seating and pass labels by phasing out “VIP” and “VVIP” terms and enhancing public engagement through platforms like My Bharat. Youth groups, NCC units, and educational institutions are encouraged to participate in the celebrations.
