Iran has rejected US President Donald Trump’s claims that Tehran had agreed to end its nuclear programme and reopen the Strait of Hormuz as part of a possible deal, calling the assertions false and dismissing
recent American military threats as psychological pressure rather than a genuine military strategy.
According to Iran’s Mehr News, Iran’s Defence Minister said the United States was not in a position to launch military action against the country.
“The U.S. is not in a position to attack us militarily. These threats are more psychological cover for failure than operational strategy,” the minister said.
Iran rejects Trump’s claims
Iran also dismissed Trump’s latest claim that Tehran had sought a deal involving the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Fars News Agency, Iran said “there is no agreement regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.”
It also rejected reports that a US-backed Qatari proposal to reopen the Strait had been accepted, calling the proposal false. Tehran further denied an Israeli Channel 12 report claiming that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had agreed to such a deal.
Iran maintained that the Strait of Hormuz remains fully closed under all circumstances. It said vessels would only be allowed to pass through a designated route with permission from the IRGC Navy and stressed that there had been no change in its policy.
Iran also said it treats every US threat as real and has used the ceasefire period to increase combat readiness and strengthen its deterrence.
Trump says attack was cancelled
Trump announced on Saturday night that he had called off a possible attack on Iran because negotiations between the two countries were making progress.
There had been indications from some US officials that strikes on Iran’s infrastructure were being considered in an effort to push Tehran to accept Washington’s terms in ceasefire negotiations.
On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL.”
He added that Iran and “other Middle Eastern Countries” had asked the United States to delay military action because “the perimeters of a deal had been agreed to.”
Trump said the proposed agreement would include the “Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat.”
Iran says forces remain prepared
Iranian military officials, quoted by Mehr News, rejected Trump’s statement that Iran had requested attacks to stop.
They described the US President’s remarks as “a new lie” and “a desperate attempt to extort the rulers of the Persian Gulf and pressure them with threats.”
The officials said Iran’s armed forces remain at the highest level of readiness and are prepared for any situation.
“Whether he continues his aggression or retreats from it, our forces are at the highest level of readiness and are prepared for any eventuality. If confrontation becomes inevitable, the battlefield will be the decider, and at that time, everyone will understand who holds the power and who will speak the final word,” they said.
The developments come after repeated US threats of military action against Iran in recent months. According to the information provided, Trump threatened to “obliterate” Iran in March, April, June, July and again on August 2 before later stepping back each time.
