Mumbai International Airport on Tuesday said it witnessed a passenger footfall of over 55 million in the year 2025, while its daily cargo capacity touched the highest with 204 metric tons.
The operator
of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) told News18 that the number of passengers handled in 2024-2025 was 55.12 million, which is the highest ever. The airport also touched a record 1.76 lakh passenger footfall in a single day this year on November 29. Last, it was 1.72 lakh passengers a day recorded in 2023, the airport operator said.
With this, the air traffic movement at the airport also witnessed a rise from 1,036 Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) recorded on November 21, breaking the 2023 record of 1,032 ATMs.
The operator said the airport will connect with 129 destinations (60 international, 69 domestic) during the winter schedule at the end of 2025 that will extend into 2026.
The airport also strengthened its connectivity in 2025 with some new destinations and frequency additions to London Heathrow, Paris and Amsterdam. Two new European routes viz., Copenhagen and Athens have also been introduced in the winter schedule 2025 along with Denpasar in Indonesia.
“Compared to the winter schedule 2024, Mumbai International Airport will offer more connections to Europe and Asia Pacific regions—with 12 and 19 destinations, respectively, as compared to 8 (Europe) and 16 (Asia Pacific). This will further translate to an increase in average daily flight movements compared to Winter Schedule 2024, pointing to a steady growth in passenger and air traffic,” the airport operator said.
Speaking of its cargo capacity, the operator said it caters to 90 domestic cargo destinations and over 450 international cargo destinations.
Additionally, the airport has also commissioned a state-of-the-art, digital-first Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) enabling real-time situational awareness and proactive challenge mitigation.
“This is to streamline operations and enable a seamless airport experience with unique facilities that minimise queueing, such as DigiYatra-enabled e-gates, Self-Baggage Drop (SBD), FTI-TTP at Immigration and Self Check-in kiosks,” the airport operator said.
It added that the airport sustained 100 per cent on green electricity and achieved carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. While 98.7 per cent waste was diverted from landfill, a 5.5 per cent reduction in energy intensity was also achieved.
“CSMIA became the first airport in India and third airport in the World to achieve Level 5 Accreditation for Airport Customer Experience, which is the highest distinction awarded by Airports Council International (ACI). Further, we aim to strengthen capacity through advanced digital airside management and passenger flow optimisation,” it said.
