The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered wins in two key bypolls on Monday, securing the Dharmanagar Assembly seat in Tripura and the Koridang constituency in Nagaland, while counting continued in five
other seats across states.
The results come as bypoll counting across the country progressed in multiple rounds, with a mix of early leads and tight contests still unfolding.
BJP Wins Koridang Seat In Nagaland
In Nagaland, BJP candidate Daochier I Imchen won the Koridang by-election by 3,123 votes. He polled 7,317 votes, defeating Independent candidate Toshikaba, who secured 4,194 votes. Independent Imtiwapang followed with 3,633 votes, while NPP nominee I Abenjang got 3,219 votes. Congress candidate T Chalukumba Ao received just 144 votes.
Imchen, aged 35, is set to become the youngest member of the 14th Nagaland Assembly. His victory also reinforces his family’s political presence in the constituency, as the seat was earlier held by his late father, Imkong L Imchen.
BJP Retains Dharmanagar In Tripura
In Tripura, BJP candidate Jahar Chakraborti won the Dharmanagar bypoll by a margin of 18,920 votes. He secured 24,291 votes, while CPI(M)’s Amitabha Datta received 6,001 votes and Congress candidate Chayan Bhattacharya polled 5,936 votes.
The bypoll was necessitated following the death of Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen. Chief Minister Manik Saha thanked voters for the mandate and said the result reflected continued public support for development-focused governance.
Gujarat: BJP Sweeps Umreth Seat
In Gujarat’s Umreth Assembly bypoll, BJP candidate Harshad Parmar delivered a decisive victory, winning by a massive margin of 30,743 votes. Parmar secured around 85,500 votes, comfortably defeating Congress rival Bhrugurajsinh Chauhan.
Karnataka: Congress Leads In Two Seats

In Davanagere South, Congress candidate Samarth Mallikarjun moved ahead of BJP’s Srinivasa T Dasakariyappa by around 7,900 votes. Counting continues across rounds.
Maharashtra: Mixed Leads
In Maharashtra’s Baramati, NCP leader Sunetra Pawar maintained a strong lead, while BJP candidate Akshay Kardile was ahead in Rahuri.
Baramati witnessed a massive margin in early trends, with Pawar far ahead of her rivals. The seat fell vacant following the death of then Deputy CM and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Ajit Pawar in a plane crash on January 28.
Meanwhile, the Rahuri seat in Ahilyanagar district became vacant after BJP MLA Shivaji Kardile’s death in October last year.
Counting is still underway in both constituencies.
