Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal United (JDU) leader Nitish Kumar is expected to resign on April 14 as he prepares for the Rajya Sabha, paving the way for a power transition in the state, sources told
News18.
It is learnt that Kumar will arrive in Delhi today, and he will take the oath as a Rajya Sabha member tomorrow, April 10. A Bihar cabinet meeting has scheduled from April 13 to discuss his successor.
‘CM’s Post Can’t Remain Vacant’
Nitish Kumar, one of the longest-serving Chief Ministers in the country, has reportedly told senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders that the CM’s post cannot remain vacant.
Sources revealed he wants his deputy and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary to assume the office and that he has conveyed his preference to the party’s leadership.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the oath-taking ceremony on April 15, they said.
During multiple public events, including the Samriddhi Yatra, Nitish Kumar has hinted that Samrat Choudhary should be seen as the future leader.
End Of An Era?
Nitish Kumar’s decision to head to the Rajya Sabha signals the end of an era in Bihar, juts months after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) — which the JD(U) is a part of — secured a thumping victory in the assembly polls.
However, a formal announcement on the name of his successor is still awaited.
