once moved at a breezy pace now feels stuck in permanent slow motion.
But in 2026, that daily frustration may finally get a break.
Namma Metro has lined up what many are calling a double dose of good news for Bengalureans. Two major new routes, the Pink Line and the Blue Line, are set to open in phases through the year, promising faster travel and much-needed relief from road congestion.
For a city that lives on tight schedules and tighter roads, this is not just infrastructure news. It is hope with a timetable.
Two new lines, one big shift for commuters
With the Green, Purple and Yellow lines already shaping how the city moves, the addition of the Pink and Blue lines could push Bengaluru closer to a near-complete metro network.
Officials say commercial operations on both new lines are expected to begin by the end of 2026. If timelines hold, commuters in some of the city’s most traffic-hit zones could finally swap long road journeys for smooth rail rides.
The Pink Line: From Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara
The Pink Line is one of the most awaited additions to Namma Metro. Stretching over about 21.25 km, it connects Kalena Agrahara in South Bengaluru to Nagawara in the north, cutting across some of the city’s busiest residential and commercial zones.
The rollout will happen in two key stages.
The first phase will open in May 2026. This includes the 7.5 km elevated stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere, with 6 stations coming into service. For commuters in South Bengaluru, this alone could significantly ease daily travel to central parts of the city.
The second phase is expected by November 2026, when the underground section between Tavarekere and Nagawara becomes operational. This part includes 12 underground stations and is being seen as a major engineering milestone for the metro network.
Adding to the excitement, one driverless train manufactured by BEML has already arrived for the Pink Line, marking Bengaluru’s steady move toward more advanced metro operations.
The Blue Line: Silk Board to KR Puram
If there is one corridor that defines Bengaluru’s traffic woes, it is Silk Board. And that is exactly where the Blue Line steps in.
The first phase of the Blue Line, running from Silk Board to KR Puram, is expected to open by December 2026. This stretch spans about 17.75 km and includes 13 stations, connecting key IT and residential hubs in the city’s southeast and east.
The full Blue Line will eventually cover 58.19 km, but for now, commuters are pinning their hopes on this first phase to unclog some of the most notorious bottlenecks in the city.
The second phase of the Blue Line is scheduled for 2027, extending the network further and strengthening east-west connectivity.
Why this matters for everyday travel
For daily commuters, this expansion is about more than new stations on a map.
These two lines are expected to take pressure off roads that currently handle massive volumes of private vehicles and buses. Areas like Kalena Agrahara, Tavarekere, Nagawara, Silk Board and KR Puram see heavy congestion every single day. A reliable metro alternative could mean fewer cars, shorter travel times and more predictable commutes.
