Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay will appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi on Monday, January 12, party sources said. He has been summoned in connection
with the probe into the Karur campaign stampede that killed 41 people last year.
Vijay’s convoy arrived around seven hours late, leading thousands of supporters to rush forward for a glimpse of him. The situation worsened due to extreme heat, dehydration and weak crowd control measures. Many people climbed trees and nearby shops, where tin roofs collapsed under pressure.
In October 2025, the Supreme Court ordered a CBI probe into the incident. The agency has summoned Vijay for questioning on January 12, 2026. Tamil Nadu Police have charged TVK leaders for ignoring safety warnings, while a one-member judicial commission was also set up.
