Traffic jams are one of those things almost everyone hates but can’t escape especially in big cities. It happens when there are too many vehicles on the road, and everyone’s moving at a snail’s pace or
not at all.
Ghodbunder Road in Mumbai has become a classic example, with a massive gridlock stretching from Navghar in Mira Bhayandar to Manpada in Thane since midnight Wednesday. Even by 8:30 am, the traffic showed no signs of easing, leaving commuters frustrated and late for work.
What Social Media Says
Social media quickly filled up with videos and complaints.
One X user said, “Ghodbunder Road traffic is horrible. Stuck at the start of the GB road near Fountain for 1 Hour. Painful wait. It is a State highway. Pathetic traffic choc a bloc. It’s a regular feature.”

Another commuter pointed out administrative lapses, writing, “Called up @MTPHereToHelp to inform about induced traffic since the last 20 mins. Reason? Incompetent authorities to ensure heavy vehicles towards Thane move in one single lane. Repercussion? 10 km long jam from Gaimukh to Ahmedabad highway.”

Why The Gridlock?
The traffic snarls affect both directions: from Navghar to Gaymukh Ghat on the Mira Bhayandar-Thane route, and from Ghodbunder Ghat to Manpada on the Thane-bound stretch.
Large potholes along Ghodbunder Ghat and Gaymukh Ghat, coupled with vehicles moving in the wrong direction, have been identified as the main causes. The damaged road surfaces in these stretches exacerbate delays. Despite repeated repair attempts over the past few months, the situation remains unresolved.
Authorities, including Thane and Kashimira police, are attempting to manage the traffic, but the sheer volume of vehicles makes a quick resolution challenging. Commuters continue to face long delays, while residents and office-goers urge a long-term plan to improve road conditions and traffic management on this critical route.
About Ghodbunder Road
Ghodbunder Road is an essential artery for both commuters and commercial traffic. Heavy trucks moving from the Uran JNPA port towards Gujarat, alongside thousands of office-goers travelling from the western suburbs to Thane and Navi Mumbai, make this stretch particularly prone to congestion.
