Mumbaiites can regale in floral treat this weekend as the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Garden and Zoo (Ranichi Bagh) in Byculla holds a flower festival from February 6 to 8. The festival will remain
open to the public for these three days from 8 am to 8 pm. Featuring around 5,000 plants, from vibrant flowering species and fruit saplings to medicinal and seasonal varieties, the festival promises to be a visual and sensory delight.
The theme
This year’s flower festival is based on the concept of ‘music’ and an attempt will be made to provide a feeling of music through flowers.
Mumbaiites will get an opportunity to see thousands of species of colorful flowers, various plants and attractive replicas decorated with flowers.
The flower festival has been organised for the past 28 years in the garden. Last year, the concept was ‘national symbols’, while before that, the flower festival was celebrated the ‘animal kingdom’, ‘aquatic life’, ‘our Mumbai’ and ‘cartoons’.
Why the festival
The main objective of this festival is to create environmental awareness among Mumbaikars and strengthen their connection with nature. Various species of flowers, fruit tree seedlings, medicinal plants and attractive ornamental trees will be seen in this flower festival. Along with this, gardening materials, organic fertilizers, pots and necessary planting materials will be available for sale.
Preparations for this flower festival began about three months ago. The work of planting the plants, taking care of them, and arranging them according to the decided concept is in its final stages.
Workshops on various topics have been organized on the occasion of this year’s flower festival. Experts will provide guidance on topics such as micro greens, plant propagation, bonsai, aquascaping, organic fertilizer production, tree maintenance and artistic flower arrangements. Many dignitaries, including ambassadors from Japan, Malaysia, Canada and Mauritius, have previously visited this flower festival.
This flower festival will be an unforgettable experience for nature lovers, and the organizers have appealed to Mumbaikars to take advantage of this opportunity.
