Ranveer Singh recently stepped away from one of the most anticipated projects, Don 3, directed by Farhan Akhtar and backed by Excel Entertainment. Following Singh’s exit from the film and with recent Variety
India claims of Excel demanding compensation from the actor, a recent report has offered insight into what transpired behind closed doors following the fallout.
A Bollywood Hungama report suggests that following the fallout, there were two meetings behind closed doors which included some of the most influential figures in the film industry. The source revealed, “From the outset, it was made clear that the intent was not to single out or blame any individual. The discussion revolved around a larger industry issue: what options a filmmaker has after investing substantial money in a film’s pre-production when the principal actor exits the project. The stakeholders also examined the issue from the actor’s point of view and deliberated on safeguards producers can put in place to prevent such situations in the future.”
In the first meeting, several senior producers discussed the circumstances surrounding Ranveer’s exit and the broader implications for producers when a film collapses at advanced stages. Meanwhile, the second meeting, involving Aamir Khan, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Ramesh Taurani, and Kumar Taurani, discussed Ranveer’s position.
The source revealed, “Ranveer blamed Excel Entertainment for unprofessionalism and not being serious about taking Don 3 on floors. He stated that Farhan Akhtar never had a bound script in place and that, as an actor, he prefers to work only with fully developed material.”
“Ranveer also pointed out that Farhan was never open to feedback on the script and had issues incorporating certain subplots. He further alleged that Excel was exploring the possibility of getting Hrithik Roshan on board and only re-approached him after the success of Dhurandhar, to capitalise on his momentum,” the source further continued.
Don 3 on Hold?
Meanwhile, weeks after Ranveer Singh’s exit from Don 3, it was reported that Farhan Akhtar planned to put the film on hold. If a report by Pinkvilla is to be believed, Akhtar does not want to decide on Don 3’s casting in a hurry and has therefore decided to work on Jee Le Zaraa for now, which stars Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif in the lead.
