A Noida-based pizza shop owner landed in police custody after a shocking CCTV clip allegedly showed him spitting on pizza dough while preparing food orders.
The accused, identified as Mujammil, operates
a food outlet named Pizza Hunt in Chaura village of Sector-22, under the jurisdiction of the Sector-24 police station in Noida. The incident came to light after a video, reportedly captured on CCTV, began circulating online and quickly gained traction among users.
Members of the Hindu Raksha Dal claimed they were alerted about the incident and later verified the alleged act through the CCTV footage. Sonu Sharma, president of the organisation’s Khoda unit, stated that members confronted the accused after allegedly noticing him repeating the act.
Following the confrontation, the accused was handed over to local police. However, reports also suggested that he was allegedly assaulted by some members before police intervention took place.
Police confirmed that the accused was taken into custody and questioned after the video surfaced online. Authorities said preventive action had been initiated, and an investigation into the matter is currently underway.
During questioning, Mujammil reportedly denied intentionally spitting on the food. He told police that he was merely blowing air on the dough to remove excess flour while preparing the pizza base. Officials said the authenticity and circumstances surrounding the clip are being examined further.
A police official stated that forensic analysis of the footage may also be conducted to determine whether the video had been tampered with and to verify when it was recorded. Materials from the shop have reportedly been seized, while other employees working at the outlet are also being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
The viral clip, said to be around one minute and 22 seconds long, sparked angry reactions online, with many social media users expressing concern over hygiene practices at eateries and food delivery outlets.
The video, shared by X user @gharkekalesh, drew a flood of reactions from viewers.
“That’s wild who would’ve thought pizza prep could get that dramatic? Hope they sort it out quickly,” said one user.
“The honest answer is that even in a world where ai takes over most tasks, someone will still be held accountable for what gets spit onto the pizza,” commented another.
“Why they spit on food? Many videos emerged in last couple years of this kind of dirty thing,” a third user wrote.
“At the same time, it also highlights the importance of strict supervision, CCTV monitoring, and swift action by authorities to ensure food safety and maintain public confidence in such outlets across India,” another user said.
