Travelling between Lucknow and Kanpur has often meant long hours stuck in traffic, especially during peak times. The busy roads and limited routes have made daily commutes tiring for many people.

may soon change. A new expressway connecting the two cities is almost ready, and it promises to cut down travel time in a big way. The project is expected to make journeys faster, smoother, and far less stressful for regular travellers.
Expressway Promises Faster Travel
In a video, the narrator shares details about the upcoming project. He says, “UP’s most advanced, the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, is now nearly complete. Built at a cost of Rs 4,700 crore, this magnificent 63-kilometer-long, six-lane corridor is set to completely transform your travel experience.”
The expressway is designed to reduce travel time between the two cities to just around 35 minutes. This is a big change compared to the current situation, where people often spend hours on the road.
Features Make It Stand Out
Talking about its key features, the narrator explains, “It features an 18-kilometer-long elevated stretch, meaning no more worries about city traffic jams! You will be able to zip along this access-controlled route at speeds of up to 120 km/h. Your wait is almost over; vehicles are set to start plying this expressway by April 2026.”
The road has been planned to allow smooth and uninterrupted travel, helping people avoid crowded city routes.
Project Nearing Completion
Reports suggest that the expressway was earlier expected to open on December 25, but work on some parts was still pending. Now, most of the construction is complete, and final preparations are underway.
At present, many travellers rely on the Jajmau Ganga Bridge to move between Lucknow and Kanpur. This route sees heavy traffic throughout the day, especially during morning and evening hours, causing long delays.
A railway overbridge near Saraiya Crossing is also under construction, which will take more time to finish. In this situation, the expressway is expected to provide much-needed relief.

The narrator also highlights the larger impact of the project. “This project will not only save you time and fuel but will also give a massive boost to business and connectivity between these two major cities,” he says.
