The Karnataka State Election Commission (SEC) has begun preparations for elections to the five municipal corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), following a Supreme Court directive to conduct
the polls by June 30. The draft electoral roll, prepared for 369 wards, has now been published, and voters have been urged to check their names and submit objections if needed.
The draft list includes 88,91,411 voters, with 45,69,193 men, 43,20,583 women and 1,635 other voters. The final electoral roll will be published on March 16.
The SEC has announced the following schedule for revising the electoral roll:
Draft list published: January 20
Objections and claims: January 20 to February 3
Disposal of objections: February 4 to February 18
Final electoral roll: March 16
This process is being carried out to ensure a fair and accurate voters’ list before the municipal elections.
When Will Door-to-Door Visits Begin?
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit households to verify the draft voters’ list. The door-to-door verification will take place from January 20 to February 3.
During these visits, BLOs will check whether the names of residents are included in the draft electoral roll.
How Many Polling Stations and Voters are There?
A total of 8,044 polling stations will be set up across 369 wards in the five municipal corporations.
Ward 23 of Bengaluru West MCC has the highest number of voters: 49,530
Ward 16 of Bengaluru East MCC has the lowest number of voters: 10,926
What Should Voters Do If Their Name is Missing From The List?
State Election Commissioner G.S. Sangreshi has urged voters to verify their names in the draft list. If a voter’s name is missing, they should apply immediately using Form-4.
Anyone who has turned 18 years or older is eligible to be included in the voters’ list.
Where Can the Draft Voters’ List be Checked?
The draft voters’ list is available in PDF format on the GBA official website. Voters are advised to check their details and ensure they are included.
How to Submit Objections or Corrections?
Applications must be submitted to the Registrar of Voters, Assistant Registrars of Voters or Booth Level Officers (BLOs), along with required documents in the prescribed formats.
