India government will the first time measure digital adoption among unincorporated enterprises under the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE), scheduled to begin in January 2026.
The National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is planning to conduct the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) from January 2026. It will be carried out until December 2026 mainly manufacturing, Trade and Services.
Unincorporated sector enterprises are businesses that are not registered as companies under any formal act, like the Companies Act. They are usually run at the local level by individuals, families, or small groups.
MoSPI also released a draft schedule along with the prescribed feedback format seeking feedback from all the concerned stakeholders on the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) Schedule for the reference year 2026.
The survey will try to gauge the digital adoption of non-agricultural enterprises, including UPI, marketplace, website, online orders.
It now includes a detailed section on technology use, asking whether enterprises use computers, smartphones, websites, social media pages, internet banking, UPI, or digital payment gateways. Establishments must also report whether they list products on e-commerce marketplaces, receive online orders, or deliver goods and services digitally
Moreover, it will also try to capture informal gig economy that includes Ola/Uber drivers, tutors and delivery agents.
The draft also brings the gig and platform economy into the official statistical net. New codes have been introduced for activities such as Ola/Uber/Rapido driving, homestays, delivery services, household maintenance work, home-tutoring, and private moneylending.
