“During 2025, Bihar Police arrested a total of 3,61,364 accused persons in various criminal cases. In a major crackdown on illegal arms manufacturing and trafficking, police recovered 4,963 illegal firearms and 30,133 cartridges. Additionally, 74 mini gun factories — considered hubs for illegal weapon production — were busted across the state,” Kumar said at a press conference in Patna.
The Indian Express cited the report stating that the state had reported dacoity as one of the sharpest long-term declines. While more than 1,200 cases were recorded annually in the early 2000s, including a peak of 1,297 cases in 2004, the cases had declined to 426 by 2015 and by 2025 it stood at 174, the lowest level since 2001.
The DGP said the police are focusing on securing convictions. The courts convicted 1,43,545 criminals between January and November 2025, of which four were awarded death penalty while 1,097 were sentenced to life imprisonment.
Convictions were also secured against 518 accused in serious cases, including rape and those registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he said.
Another group of cases that witnessed a significant drop was riot-related cases. The number of cases stood at 8,520 cases in 2001 and peaked at 13,566 cases in 2014. However, it began falling o 7,262 cases in 2019 and further to 2,502 cases in 2025 — the lowest since 2001, the report stated.
Meanwhile, the rape cases have seen a rise, from 746 cases in 2000 to a peak of 2,205 cases in 2024. The year 2025 marked a marginal fall to 2,025 cases.
