From his debut in Zeher to the blockbuster Saiyaara, director Mohit Suri has always valued honest feedback. Recently, he opened up about Alia Bhatt and Shraddha Kapoor’s support for Saiyaara, calling it “biased”
— and saying it means even more to him when audiences embrace the film too.
Talking to Zoom, Mohit reflected on affection from two major stars. “Those two are biased also. Dono teaser se hi film ko support kar rahe the (They have been supporting the film since the teaser). They are biased towards me but to see the rest of the world love it the same way, as they have, is more important also.”
Mohit also shared an anecdote about a young Alia Bhatt reacting to his debut song Woh Lamhe Woh Baatein. Recalling the memory, he said, “Mujhe yaad hai Alia jab choti thi toh mai apni pehli film ka video Bhatt saab (Mahesh Bhatt) ko dikhane lekar gaya tha, Woh Lamhe Woh Baatein ka, Bhatt saab ko itna samaj nahi aya tha but Alia was like, ‘this is really cool, papa. I am telling you.’ That time woh filmo me thi bhi nahi but she always had that in her. She is more commercial than all of us put together.”
Meanwhile, the director also spoke with IANS in the light of humongous success of ‘Saiyaara’, and shared that his conduct on a film set comes from years of subconscious learning during his stint as an assistant director.
Mohit told IANS, “I’ve been on the set since I was 17. I was an assistant director for five years, and then I started directing at the age of 22. I spent more than 50% of my life on a set and being a director. Now I’m 44. I think that’s the real me”.
He said that film sets are his natural space, and he not social events or media events, where he has to play the character called Mohit Suri.
Mohit’s latest film Saiyaara, featuring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, follows a lyricist and singer navigating love, art, and emotion. Released on 18 July, the film has earned nearly Rs 300 crore in India thanks to its soulful music and heartfelt storytelling.
