Heavy rain lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Saturday, dampening the festive spirit of Raksha Bandhan. Many netizens took to X to express their frustration over waterlogging and the resulting traffic disruptions.
Taking to X, a social media user wrote, “Rakhi vibes in Delhi… Sibling love + Flood survival mode.”
“Happy Rakhi with traffic jams and of course waterlogging,” said another.
Delhi Traffic Advisory
With heavy rainfall and festive weekend traffic causing major disruptions, the Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory warning commuters of severe congestion on Old GT Road. Waterlogging has been reported at key points including GTK Depot, Jahangirpuri, and Adarsh Nagar.
Amid a heavy rain alert by IMD, Delhi Police issued a traffic advisory. “Due to the Raksha Bandhan festival weekend and recent rains causing waterlogging at GTK Depot, Jahangirpuri, and Adarsh Nagar, traffic on old GT Road is likely to be severely affected. To avoid congestion, commuters are advised to avoid taking old GT Road. Delhi Metro services are operational and can help minimise travel disruptions. Please plan your route accordingly,” it wrote on X.
Red Alert Issued
The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for several areas in Delhi, including North, West, and South Delhi. A yellow alert has also been issued for parts of East Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Noida for today, August 9.
