The Vande Bharat Express is set to expand its wings in the Indian Railways network. The iconic train is set to introduce its first-ever sleeper service, which will run from the capital city of Delhi, passing
through Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, to reach Patna.
On its launch, the Vande Bharat Sleep Express is expected to attract a wider set of travellers than even the premium Rajdhani Express trains due to its more advanced facilities and speed. It is set to be operational before the festival of Diwali this year.
Schedule For Sleeper Vande Bharat Express
Among the enhanced set of facilities, the Sleeper Vande Bharat Express will be equipped with CCTV cameras, LED screens, automatic doors, an advanced fire safety system and public announcement as well as visual informational displays for travellers.
“Indian Railways is introducing a new era of overnight travel with the launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train in September 2025. Building on the remarkable success of the Vande Bharat Express chair car services, this sleeper variant aims to redefine long-distance rail journeys with a new focus on speed, comfort, and safety,” reads a statement issued on Vande Bharat’s official website.
“Engineered to combine the signature swiftness and modern design of Vande Bharat trains with the functionality of sleeper coaches, this high-speed train introduces a cost-effective, convenient alternative to air travel for overnight trips.”
The first-ever Vande Bharat Sleeper train will start its journey from Patna at 8 PM and reach Delhi at 7:30 AM, covering the entire distance in just over 11 hours. Unlike the Rajdhani Express, which takes 23 hours.
What Is The Expected Fare?
The railway authorities have tailored the interiors of the train to provide a fast and yet comfortable experience to travellers, claiming that the facilities will match amenities typically found in aeroplanes.
The ticket price for the Vande Bharat Sleeper service trains will be set at 10 to 15 per cent higher than the Rajdhani Express. “Manufactured by BEML using advanced Integral Coach Factory (ICF) technology, the train will operate at speeds of up to 180 km/h,” said the Indian Railways, while also stating that a trial run for the train has already been completed and it has been moved to Delhi’s Shakarpur for further processing.
Also declared are plans to upgrade the regular Vande Bharat Express trains. Indian Railways will be adding more coaches on the seven active routes of the popular train, attracting higher passenger occupancy every month. Currently, there are four Vande Bharat Express trains with 8 coaches and three others with 16 coaches operational on tracks.
