Two Indian airports have secured a place on the World’s Most Beautiful Airports List 2026, a prestigious global recognition presented by the Prix Versailles architecture and design awards. According to
a report by Mid-day, Navi Mumbai International Airport and Terminal 2 of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati have made the coveted list for the first time.
The two facilities, operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), were recognised for their architectural excellence, sustainability, innovation, cultural identity and passenger experience.
Global Recognition For Airport Design
The Prix Versailles, an annual global architecture and design award presented at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, has recognised excellence in the field since 2015. The programme honours airports and terminals that successfully combine striking architecture with functionality, environmental sustainability and traveller comfort.
This year’s list includes airports and terminals from several countries, with the two Indian entries joining prominent aviation hubs in China, Germany, Cambodia and the United States.
Navi Mumbai Airport Celebrated For Lotus-Inspired Architecture
According to the report, Terminal 1 of Navi Mumbai International Airport was recognised for its striking lotus-inspired architecture and futuristic design. The airport blends advanced technology, public art and modern infrastructure to create a gateway intended to reflect India’s expanding role in the global economy.
Beyond its architectural appeal, the project is expected to strengthen air connectivity and support economic growth across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Guwahati Terminal Draws Inspiration From Northeast India
Terminal 2 of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport drew recognition for its Bamboo Orchid-inspired design, a tribute to Northeast India’s rich natural heritage and biodiversity. The terminal incorporates sustainable and biophilic design principles while showcasing the region’s cultural traditions and natural heritage.
Strategically located between South and Southeast Asia, the airport serves as a key gateway to the Northeast and an important link for regional connectivity.
AAHL Highlights Sustainable Infrastructure Vision
Adani Airport Holdings Limited said the recognition reflects its focus on developing world-class airport infrastructure that balances architectural excellence with operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.
The company noted that airports have evolved beyond transport hubs to become important catalysts for tourism, regional development and economic growth.
More Global Honours Still Up For Grabs
Prix Versailles has announced that three airports or terminals from the 2026 shortlist will receive additional World Titles later this year for exceptional interior or exterior design achievements.
The inclusion of Navi Mumbai International Airport and Guwahati’s Terminal 2 on the prestigious list underscores India’s growing ambitions in aviation infrastructure and reinforces the country’s emerging reputation for combining innovative design with sustainable development.
