Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will arrive in India this evening on a three-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of External Affairs said in an official statement.
This marks Wong’s first trip to India since taking office as Singapore’s Prime Minister.
Wong will be accompanied by his wife, Lawrence Wong, along with a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet Ministers and senior officials.
According to the MEA, PM Modi and PM Wong will hold bilateral discussions on September 4.
The Singaporean leader will also call on President Droupadi Murmu, while External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other dignitaries are scheduled to meet him during the visit.
The trip comes at a significant moment, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of India-Singapore diplomatic relations.
The MEA said the visit reflects the “continued commitment of both countries to further strengthen” the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that was elevated during PM Modi’s visit to Singapore in 2024.
Talks between the two Prime Ministers are expected to cover bilateral, regional, and global issues of mutual interest, with a focus on deepening trade, connectivity, and strategic cooperation under India’s ‘Act East’ Policy.
He will also engage with leaders from the industry and business, where several agreements are expected to be signed in sectors such as skill development, finance, digital cooperation, civil aviation, space, and shipping.
Singapore is among India’s top sources of FDI and a major hub for Indian companies in Southeast Asia. The two countries conduct joint military exercises and collaborate on maritime security.
