The 1997 Bollywood thriller ‘Gupt’ starring Bobby Deol, Kajol and Manish Koirala in the lead roles was an iconic movie most famous for the ‘killer reveal’ at the end. The film kept audiences at the edge
of their seat, revealing the unlikeliest of characters to be the villain. As with most famous love triangle storylines, it also divided fans over whether Bobby Deol’s character should have ended with Manisha Koirala or Kajol.
But do you know there is a very interesting, albeit embarrassing, episode associated with the movie? Years after the movie’s release, Bobby Deol revealed during an interview to Filmfare that he had to complain to the director about a co-star’s bad breath while filming a scene! And that co-star was one of the two heroines of the movie. Read on to know who it was…
The story goes that Bobby Deol was set to shoot a romantic sequence with one of the leading ladies as part of the song Bechainiyan. According to the actor, the actress had to bring her face closer to his during the sequence and that’s when he smelled the stench of onion on the actress’s breath. It turned out that the actress had just eaten some chana chaat with raw onions before the shoot!
Bobby Deol said during the interview that he managed to finish the scene with great difficulty but had to eventually complain to the director about the situation. “It was a miracle that I managed to do that scene, because romance was the last thing on my mind then. But then I told everything to the director,” he reportedly said.
And the actress whom he complained about? None other than Manisha Koirala!
Gupt was the second film of Bobby Deol’s career and made Rs 18.23 crore at the box office.
