The meeting came as G7 leaders reaffirmed their support for Ukraine in its war against Russia, pledging additional military and economic assistance to Kyiv.
In a formal declaration issued at the summit, the Heads of State and Government of the G7 expressed “unwavering support” for Ukraine and praised the country’s resilience during the prolonged conflict.
“We, the Heads of State and Government of the G7, stand united in our unwavering support for Ukraine as it defends its freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” the statement said. The leaders also commended Ukraine and its citizens for their resilience and progress on the battlefield in recent months.
To bolster Ukraine’s defence capabilities, the G7 agreed to provide additional air defence systems, interceptors and long-range ammunition, while also granting licences aimed at increasing Ukraine’s domestic military production. The grouping further pledged support for Ukraine’s energy needs ahead of the winter season.
The leaders also agreed to intensify pressure on Moscow by strengthening sanctions targeting Russia’s oil and gas sectors.
The summit declaration additionally welcomed the announcement of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran, with G7 leaders expressing hope that renewed diplomatic momentum could contribute to broader international stability, including efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
