We have often heard of road scams where travellers are chased or trapped by fraudsters. Recently, a driver returning from Coorg in a rental car had a harrowing experience on Karnataka’s Hunsur Road, where he was
chased for three kilometres by individuals posing as loan recovery agents in an alleged scam attempt.
The incident, detailed in a now-viral Reddit post, describes how the suspects pulled alongside the vehicle, attempting to intimidate the driver and demand money. “If you’re driving a rental on Hunsur Road, do not stop for these clowns. They are targeting tourists hoping you’ll panic,” the Redditor wrote.
What Was The Exact Incident?
Sharing the suspect picture on Reddit, the user wrote, “I was driving back from Coorg today in a Revv car. Cruising down Hunsur Road, vibes were good, until this random guy pulls up next to me flashing some sketchy ID card and telling me to pull over. Obviously, I ignored him.”
Shortly after, another person on a scooter cut directly in front of the car, while a third man approached and shouted at the driver to lower the window. “A few meters later, bro literally cuts in front of me and another guy pulls up screaming to lower the window,” he wrote.
The Redditor further said the group claimed to be “loan recovery agents” and alleged that the car’s loan was in default. They threatened immediate seizure of the vehicle, hoping that he would panic and stop the vehicle.

“I slow down a bit and they hit me with the “We are Loan Recovery Agents” script. Said the car’s loan is defaulted and they are here to “seize the vehicle” right now.” The Redditor said he had all the proper documents for the car and immediately realised it was a scam.
As he tried to drive away, three more scooters joined the person and started circling the car. They chased the user’s car for almost three kilometres, but he managed to escape anyway.
“The Reality Check: I had all the papers. I knew it was a scam. I tried to dip, but then 3 more scooters joined the chat. They literally chased me for 3 kms, swerving in front of the car trying to block me like we’re in a movie,” he concluded the post.
How Did The Internet React?
The post quickly went viral, with social media users shocked by the incident. Many warned others, especially tourists, not to stop for anyone claiming to be a loan recovery agent.
One person wrote, “For a corporate (Revv) Vehicle? Why would they try to stop the customer from a company default, even if the company has actually defaulted? OP, you should have driven straight to the nearest police station. Happy to see you have the registration number, now file a complaint with Brosephs help.”
Another commented, “If you have to, always have this conversation at a police station. Don’t get angry, and ask them to escort you to the nearest police station with you driving slowly behind them.”
“Hey OP, please inform Hunsur police station also. Just a quick call letting them know that there are scammers in that road,” wrote the next.
“Pay taxes, follow rules and get chased down by goons on the highway. Just another day in paradise,” commented another.
