The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday released draft electoral rolls for Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Chhattisgarh after completing a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, leading to the
deletion of a large number of voter names.
The poll body said that over 22 lakh names have been removed from the voter list in Kerala following the electoral revision process.
According to official data, more than 42 lakh names have been deleted from the electoral rolls in Madhya Pradesh, while over 27 lakh entries were dropped in Chhattisgarh. In Kerala, the revision exercise resulted in the removal of over 22 lakh voters.
The draft rolls were published days after the Election Commission released revised voter data for West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, where more than 1.55 crore names were deleted after verification.
Kerala
As part of the SIR exercise, enumeration forms (EFs) were collected from 2,54,42,352 electors, covering 91.35 per cent of the electorate in Kerala.
The revision led to the identification of 6,49,885 deceased voters (2.33 per cent), 14,61,769 electors who had shifted or were absent (5.25 per cent), and 1,36,029 voters (0.49 per cent) found to be enrolled at multiple places in the electoral rolls.
Madhya Pradesh
In Madhya Pradesh, EFs were collected from around 5.31 crore electors. The deletions included 8.46 lakh deceased voters, 31.51 lakh electors who had shifted or were not traceable, and 2.77 lakh voters registered at multiple locations.
The Election Commission said booth-level officers (BLOs) were unable to locate some electors or did not receive their enumeration forms because they had migrated to other states or Union Territories, were not found to exist, failed to submit forms by December 18, 2025, or chose not to remain registered.
The poll body clarified that genuine voters can still seek inclusion during the claims and objections window, which will be open from December 23, 2025, to January 22, 2026.
Chhattisgarh
In Chhattisgarh, enumeration forms were collected from 1,84,95,920 electors. The SIR exercise resulted in the deletion of 6,42,234 deceased voters, 19,13,540 electors who had shifted or were absent, and 1,79,043 voters found to be enrolled at multiple places.
The Election Commission said the Special Intensive Revision is aimed at improving the accuracy of electoral rolls by removing duplicate and ineligible entries, while ensuring that eligible voters have sufficient opportunity to correct or restore their names before the final lists are notified.
