Online fraud is quite common these days. From scamming people on the pretext of giving jobs, to online investment frauds, recent time has witnessed an increase in such cases. In one such incident that
has emerged from Uttar Pradesh, as many as six people were allegedly working under one name, Arpit Singh, in the state’s health department.
The men have been working in the department for nine years. The scam was exposed following a document verification drive by the government’s Manav Sampada portal. The portal flagged six people working under the same name, the father’s name and date of birth. These men received salaries of Rs 69,595 a month each, across six different districts of the state, working as X-ray technicians.
According to a report by The Times of India, citing investigating officers, the gang made false offer letters, forged Aadhaar cards and defrauded nearly Rs 4.5 crore from the health department’s payroll, and then disappeared.
While an FIR has been filed in the case, the officials believe it will now be quite difficult to recover salaries as they remain absconding, with a lock on their residences and mobile phones switched off.
The case dates back to 2016 when the UP Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) selected 403 candidates for X-ray technician posts. Among the names of selected candidates was one Arpit Singh from Agra, with the serial number 80. With time, six more “Arpit Singhs” joined the department across six districts with the same details belonging to the one real Arpit, reported the outlet.
An FIR has been filed based on the complaint by Dr Ranjana Khare, director (paramedical), at Wazirganj police station under sections for cheating by impersonation (419), cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property (420), forgery of valuable security (467), forgery for cheating (468), and using forged documents as genuine (471).
The fraudsters joined offices in Balrampur, Farrukhabad, Banda, Rampur, Amroha, and Shamli.
