Elections were held for 6 corporations, 14 district panchayats, 87 municipalities, 152 block panchayats, and 941 grama panchayats.
On Thursday, State Election Commissioner A Shahjahan announced that this year’s local body elections in Kerala recorded the highest turnout since the first civic elections were held in 1995.
Conducted in two phases, the local body polls saw a turnout of 76.08 per cent in the second phase, according to figures released by the SEC around 9:30 pm on Thursday. The first phase of polling, which concluded on December 9, had a turnout of 70.91 per cent, resulting in an overall turnout of 73.69 per cent for the elections.
