South African starlet Dewald Brevis was extended a raucous welcome back in his first innings for the Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday against the visiting Kolkata Knight Riders.
Brevis managed to add 41 runs for the hosts with four fours and a couple of sixes in his first innings for the five-time winners this season.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s nightmare start to the 2026 season continued, as he was dismissed for yet another single-digit score at home against Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday.
Gaikwad was sent back for 7 off 6 balls by Anukul Roy, extending his lean run at the crease. So far this season, Gaikwad has scored 15 against Delhi Capitals, 7 against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, 28 against Punjab Kings and 6 versus Rajasthan Royals.
Sanju Samson began the innings in blazing fashion, picking up exactly where he had left off against Delhi Capitals, where the World Cup winner had remained unbeaten on a century. He opened this game with three consecutive boundaries.
Gaikwad was caught in the deep by Rovman Powell, the CSK skipper departing after managing just one four along with three singles.
Ayush Mhatre then joined Samson and raced to 38, cracking six fours and two sixes to power CSK to 72 in the powerplay, before falling on the final ball of the sixth over as Ramandeep Singh took a catch in the deep off Vaibhav Arora.
South African youngster Dewald Brevis replaced Mhatre and guided CSK past 100, before Samson, the man in form, was bowled by Karthik Tyagi just 2 runs short of a half-century.
Sarfaraz Khan followed, adding a useful 23 before being bowled by Sunil Narine. Brevis, who had scored a brisk 41 off 29 deliveries, was then dismissed by Tyagi, with Arora taking the catch to remove the Protea batter.
