Planned power interruptions are set to continue in parts of Bengaluru on December 25 as the city’s electricity utility carries out scheduled maintenance and infrastructure upgrade works. The shutdowns,
announced in advance, are part of routine efforts to improve network reliability and prevent unscheduled outages, officials said.
According to Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited, electricity supply will be temporarily suspended in select areas across south, west and parts of central Bengaluru during the day on Wednesday.
Power Cut Timings
The power cut is expected to be in effect from around 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, depending on the feeder and the nature of maintenance work being carried out. In some locations, supply may be restored earlier if work is completed ahead of schedule, while in others it could extend closer to evening.
BESCOM officials said the outages are being scheduled during daytime hours to ensure safety for maintenance staff and to minimise the risk of sudden breakdowns during peak evening demand.
Areas Likely to Be Affected
Based on subdivision-level maintenance schedules, power supply is likely to be disrupted in parts of the following areas:
In south Bengaluru, residents in Padmanabhanagar, Subramanyapura, Uttarahalli, Banashankari 2nd and 3rd Stage, ISRO Layout, Kumaraswamy Layout, Jayanagar 7th and 8th Block, and surrounding residential pockets may experience outages.
In west Bengaluru, areas including Vijayanagar, RPC Layout, Nagarabhavi, Chandra Layout, Attiguppe, Basaveshwaranagar, and parts of Magadi Road are likely to be affected during the shutdown window.
Some feeder-related interruptions are also expected in adjoining localities such as Girinagar, Hosakerehalli, Kengeri Satellite Town, and parts of Rajajinagar, depending on ongoing line and transformer work.
BESCOM has advised residents to check local subdivision notices or contact the 1912 helpline for feeder-specific confirmation, as exact impact can vary even within the same neighbourhood.
Why the Power Is Being Cut
Officials said the planned outages are required for a range of works, including replacement of ageing cables, maintenance of transformers, strengthening of distribution lines, and preventive repairs at substations.
These upgrades are intended to reduce technical faults, prevent overload-related failures, and improve overall power quality, particularly in areas that experience high residential and commercial demand.
The December maintenance schedule is also aimed at preparing the network for increased electricity usage during the year-end period, when household and commercial consumption typically rises.
What Residents Should Do
Residents in the affected areas are advised to plan ahead for the daytime outage. BESCOM has recommended that households charge mobile phones, laptops and power banks in advance, operate water pumps before the shutdown window, and keep emergency lights or inverter systems ready.
Shops, clinics and offices that depend on continuous power supply are advised to arrange backup power where possible, especially if sensitive equipment is in use. Apartment associations are also encouraged to inform residents in advance and ensure common-area backup systems are functional.
Possible Extensions and Additional Cuts
BESCOM has indicated that similar scheduled outages may continue in the coming days in different parts of the city as part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades. Residents are advised to stay updated through official notices, local ward offices, or the BESCOM website and helpline.
Officials stressed that while temporary inconvenience is unavoidable during maintenance work, planned shutdowns help prevent longer and more disruptive outages in the future.
What to Watch For
Power supply is expected to resume gradually once maintenance is completed. However, brief fluctuations or delayed restoration may occur in some areas if technical issues arise during energisation.
Residents have been advised to switch off sensitive appliances during the outage period and wait a few minutes after supply resumes before turning them back on.
