Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is gearing up for the release of Raat Akeli Hai – The Bansal Murders on Netflix on December 19, 2025, recently shared his thoughts on supporting independent filmmakers and the significance
of diverse cinema. Known for his versatile film choices, the Sacred Games star talked about the need for creative variety both for actors and audiences.
In an interview with Zoom TV, Nawazuddin highlighted the struggle of independent filmmakers in securing space in theatres. He stressed the importance of giving audiences access to different types of films. “Variety of cinema should be there so that the audience would get a chance to explore different kinds of cinema. I have always been supporting this. There should be creative and artistic cinema. We need to support all kinds of cinema,” he said.
Nawazuddin also reflected on his own approach to acting, noting that exploring challenging roles brings personal and creative satisfaction. “As far as my process is concerned, I always try to do difficult things. Once you start doing it, by that time you will start feeling ease while doing it. If you stay in that process, you will start doing it differently,” he explained.
The actor further highlighted the global impact of independent cinema. “Independent cinema has given the country global recognition. I like to do all kinds of films. The actor also gets satisfaction from it. If you keep doing the same kinds of films, you will get bored, as it is like a job. Nobody likes to do a job,” Nawazuddin added.
Chitrangda Singh, who co-stars in the upcoming film, also expressed support for his perspective during the conversation.
Raat Akeli Hai, directed by Honey Trehan, featured an ensemble cast including Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, Shweta Tripathi, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Nishant Dahiya, Gyanendra Tripathi, Ila Arun, Swanand Kirkire, Nitesh Kumar Tiwari and Aditya Srivastava. The film followed a small-town cop who is summoned to investigate the death of an elderly family member. The film was released on Netflix on July 31, 2020.
