Singer Papon has made an emotional appeal for support as Assam continues to battle one of its worst flood crises in recent years. In a video shared on social media, the Assam-born musician urged people
across India and the world to extend help to those displaced by the disaster, saying thousands have been left without homes while several families continue to grapple with loss.
His appeal comes as the flood death toll in the state climbed to 68, according to the latest update from the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS). Rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts are currently underway across several districts.
Papon Shares Emotional Message On Assam Floods
Speaking directly to the camera, Papon described the devastation unfolding across his home state, saying the scale of destruction has been unlike previous flood seasons.
“Hello everyone, hello India, hello world. I mean, I just wanted to bring to notice what’s happening in Assam right now. The devastation that’s happened because of the floods this year. It rains a lot here, there are floods, but you can’t imagine the situation this time,” he said.

The singer spoke about villages being submerged, people losing their homes and livelihoods, and the impact the floods have had on both humans and animals.
“Villages are flooded, people are still homeless, hundreds of people are missing, people have lost their lives…so many animals have died. It’s a bad situation, so please spread the word,” he added.
Calling for collective action, Papon urged people not to remain indifferent to the crisis.
“I request everyone in India and across the world to please, you know, look towards Assam. It’s humanity, you know, we all must come together, whatever we can do, and we need to do it quick. We’re all doing our bit here. If you want to help, please come forward,” he said.
Flood Toll Climbs To 68
The singer’s appeal coincides with worsening official figures from the state. According to the latest DRIMS bulletin, 68 people have lost their lives in the floods, while large parts of Assam continue to remain affected.
The state government has identified districts including Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat among the worst-hit areas, where relief operations and rehabilitation remain a priority.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said ministers have been assigned to different regions to coordinate relief measures and ensure assistance reaches affected families as quickly as possible.
Restoration Of Essential Services Underway
Apart from rescue and rehabilitation work, the state government has also begun restoring essential infrastructure damaged by the floods.
Sharing an update, Himanta Biswa Sarma said electricity is being restored in phases after power supply was suspended in several areas as a safety precaution during the floods.
He said teams from Assam Power Distribution Company Limited have been conducting safety inspections before reconnecting electricity in districts including Sivasagar, Jorhat, Charaideo, Dhubri and Bongaigaon.
According to the Chief Minister, restoring normal civic services remains one of the government’s immediate priorities as floodwaters gradually recede.
Centre Assures Full Support
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal described the flood situation as “very serious” and said both the Centre and the Assam government are working together to carry out rescue and relief operations.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been monitoring the situation since the beginning of the floods and has remained in regular contact with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Sonowal also revealed that the Prime Minister personally sought an update on the latest ground situation and assured Assam of all possible assistance from the Centre.
According to the Union Minister, a high-level inter-ministerial team has reached the state to assess the extent of the damage, interact with affected residents and help coordinate further relief measures.
