Jason Sanjay, son of Thalapathy Vijay, has said that his immediate priority is the successful release of his directorial debut ‘Sigma’, starring Sundeep Kishan. Amid growing curiosity over his acting plans,
he clarified that his focus remains on Sigma for now and that he will decide on stepping in front of the camera only after the film’s release.
Vijay’s Son Jason Sanjay On Whether He Plans To Make Acting Debut
Speaking about his cameo appearance in ‘Sigma Style’, the promotional music video for the film, Jason clarified that the cameo should not be viewed as the beginning of an acting career. In a chat with Ananda Vikatan, he said, “I didn’t appear in the promotional song because I wanted to become an actor. Since the song exists outside the narrative of the film, I just did it for fun. The promotional song is meant to introduce the people who are part of the film and give audiences a sense of the film’s theme and style. That’s why I danced in it.”
Jason noted that his attention remains firmly on completing the release of Sigma and ensuring the film performs well. According to him, decisions about acting or continuing solely as a filmmaker can only be made after the project is released.
“Right now, more than anything else, I have the huge responsibility of releasing Sigma and making it a success. That’s where my entire focus is. Only after the film releases will I think about whether I want to act or continue directing,” he said.
‘I Have An Actor Within Me’, Says Jason Sanjay
“But these days, a lot of directors are becoming actors too. As a director, when you’re on set explaining a performance to your actors, there is always an actor within you-and there has to be. I have an actor within me too. But all of that will have to wait until after Sigma!” he said.
The first-time director also reflected on an acting opportunity that came his way several years ago from Premam director Alphonse Puthren. Jason recalled being around 20 years old and still pursuing his studies when he was approached for a coming-of-age story after the filmmaker’s team reportedly came across his photograph.
However, he had not considered cinema as a career at the time and was still figuring out his interests. He chose to step aside, believing the role deserved someone more suitable. Even so, he said being considered by an acclaimed filmmaker was a memorable experience that left him feeling proud and happy.
Produced by Lyca Productions, Sigma stars Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah. The film is currently scheduled to release on July 31. However, as per a report in Hindustan Times, it could be postponed to August to avoid releasing too close to Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan, which will hit the theatres on July 23 in India.
