The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a week of cloudy skies, intermittent rain, and thundershowers for Bengaluru on Wednesday. The city and its surrounding regions are expected to receive
light to moderate rainfall daily until Sunday, with occasional gusty winds on some days.
Bengaluru Urban recorded a maximum temperature of 26.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 20 degrees Celsius in the past 24 hours. Bengaluru Rural saw a maximum of 27.7 degrees Celsius and 2.8mm of rain. Both areas reported drizzle and light rain.
According to the weather department, light to moderate rain and thundershowers with gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at a few places, including Ballari, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chamarajanagar and Shivamogga, among other districts. Heavy rain is also expected at isolated locations across Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts in coastal Karnataka.
The rainfall is being triggered by a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal, near the Odisha coast. Accompanied by a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above sea level, the system is advancing inland towards Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. Meanwhile, the associated monsoon trough passing through central India is sustaining rainfall activity across Karnataka.
