The Afghan Taliban released footage showing a drone strike on Pakistani border outposts as the two neighbours engaged in one of the deadliest clashes in recent years. Dozens of Pakistani soldiers have
been killed or are missing in action while the Taliban have also suffered casualties.
The black-and-white video showed a drone dropping a small ordnance- likely a mortar round- on the roof of a rectangular structure that the Taliban claimed was a Pakistani military outpost. The impact triggered an explosion that destroyed the roof of the building.
Tensions have sharply escalated along the frontier, with reports suggesting that a column of Afghan tanks has moved toward the battlefield near the Pakistan border. The latest violence follows a series of explosions in Afghanistan last week, including two in Kabul, which Afghan authorities blamed on Pakistan.

In retaliation, the Taliban launched an offensive along parts of its southern border. Pakistan has long accused Afghanistan of harbouring militants from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a claim Kabul denies.
Pakistan’s military said Taliban attacked two major border posts in the southwest and northwest, both of which were repelled. Around 20 Taliban fighters were reportedly killed in clashes near Spin Boldak in southern Kandahar province early Wednesday. The Taliban claimed, however, that 15 civilians were killed and dozens wounded by Pakistani mortar fire, adding that “two to three” of its fighters were also killed.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid accused Pakistani forces of “once again” attacking the district “with light and heavy weapons.” Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that repeated attempts to persuade the Afghan Taliban to cut ties with the TTP had failed. Islamabad accuses the TTP of killing hundreds of Pakistani soldiers since 2021, when the Taliban returned to power in Kabul.
