Yami Gautam Celebrates Republic Day, Reflects On Doing patriotic films
Yami Gautam has been in the headlines for quite some time now for the movies that she has been doing. From Uri: The Surgical Strike, Article 370 to most recently Haq, Yami Gautam has been consciously contributing to meaningful cinema, and today, on Republic Day, the actress, who had patriotism at its core in her filmography, spoke about her film choices. Speaking to HT, Yami shared, “I’ve always been a believer in my first instinct… that never ditches you. Your own conscience always knows the right answer. And if that is clear, if the script is good, it’s a solid theme, and it’s a part that I’m excited to play, I do not think twice before taking on that journey. I’ve never done that in life, regardless of what the outcome is. Of course, the idea, the intent is to instill the feeling of oneness in the country, to tell stories. If I get an opportunity to play unsung heroes within the same system, like in Uri, I was playing an officer from the intelligence department… we cannot even imagine the work that they do for the country, the sacrifices.”
Haq
Yami was recently seen in Haq, a courtroom drama film directed by Suparn Verma. It also stars Emraan Hashmi and Sheeba Chaddha in pivotal roles. The film is inspired by the landmark Supreme Court judgement of Mohd. Ahmed Khan v. Shah Bano Begum, which dealt with matrimonial issues of Muslim households. During an interaction with the Free Press Journal, Suparn Varma said, “I knew that once it reaches OTT, it’s going to be the next big jump for Haq. But the response from the audience has been just… I mean, sometimes you expect a tsunami, but you don’t realise how big a tsunami it’s going to be! I’ve had people calling from Nigeria and Canada, and it’s trending as the number 1 movie across the Arab countries and all our neighbours, like Sri Lanka and Nepal, everywhere. Every single day I’m getting around 200 messages, calls and DMs, so it’s just been crazy. And this morning (Sunday), you wake up to Alia Bhatt having watched the film and loving it.”
